Our Approach To The Curriculum
The provision of an exciting curriculum is pivotal to how children learn and develop during their time at school. We strive for a balance where the delivery of English and Maths can also be applied to other subjects. Creativity and diversity of teaching are encouraged in every lesson to provide children with the stimulus to really engage in their learning.
We deliver a curriculum that prepares children for the next stage of their lives, promoting an appreciation of life in modern Britain and instilling in children a sense of the core British values to enhance their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
At Eppleton Academy Primary School, we are committed to delivering a high quality and stimulating curriculum that not only meets the current Statutory Framework, but also provides opportunities for creativity, risk-taking, independence and success. As a Community School, all staff are fully committed to providing high quality teaching and learning, backed by first class personalised care and support for all pupils and their families.
Our curriculum offers challenge, and is broad and balanced. Knowledge, skills and understanding develop at a pace matched to individuals’ needs.
Staff plan and teach lessons which link aspects of the curriculum together in a meaningful way, often through a thematic approach (e.g. learning by way of whole school projects, enrichment topics and learning outside of the classroom).
Learning also occurs outside of the thematic approach. English and Mathematics are taught during morning sessions, and some other subjects e.g. PE, Computing, RE and Music may also be taught discretely.
Children are usually taught in single-year group classes, but there are times when mixed year group teaching is considered. Intervention support is offered throughout the school to children for whom this is deemed necessary. Extra curricular activities also help to broaden the school’s curriculm. If you would like to find out more about the curriculum our school is following, please make an appointment to meet with a member of staff.
